What is the Neuromonics Tinnitus Treatment?

Device-3The Neuromonics Tinnitus Treatment (NTT) is an FDA-cleared, patented and clinically-tested global breakthrough in treating tinnitus. It is personally administered and monitored by your Audiology Innovations audiologist and/or physician. NTT is non-invasive, and offers proven, significant, long-term relief and reduction of tinnitus disturbance.

Neuromonics_Sanctuary1Tinnitus is not caused by a structural defect in the ear. Rather, it originates in signals the auditory nerves send to the brain, resulting in the perception of a sound. NTT sends positive signals to the limbic system, deep within the brain, lessening the effect of those signals, and thus calming the noise.

The Neuromonics Tinnitus Treatment is customized to each patient’s individual hearing and tinnitus profile. This treatment has been in use for over a decade, with thousands of people treated worldwide.

How does the Neuromonics Tinnitus Treatment work?

Based on your individual hearing and tinnitus levels, special prescriptive music is created. This music contains special therapeutic sound frequencies beyond the range of typical music devices. As you listen, your brain begins to pay attention. The treatment teaches your brain to become desensitized to, less aware of, and less bothered by the sounds of your tinnitus.

Based on the principle of neuroplasticity (the fact that parts of the brain can learn to do what other parts cannot do) the Neuromonics Tinnitus Treatment stimulates auditory pathways, enabling new neural connections, allowing the brain to help filter out the tinnitus sound, thus reducing the disturbance and impact of tinnitus.

The negative emotions triggered by tinnitus—fear, loss of concentration, restless sleep, anxiety and others—start to fade, being replaced by a calming of the mind, and a calming of the noise.

The Treatment device is a small, specially-designed medical device. It not only delivers the treatment, but monitors and records data that the clinician can later examine, to evaluate the Treatment’s progress.

Treatment Overview

The Neuromonics Tinnitus Treatment typically covers a period of six months. (Many people report feeling immediate relief.) Daily treatment of two or more hours per day is typical when tinnitus is most disturbing. The treatment can take place during normal activities—reading, relaxing, working on the computer, or sleeping. Regular follow-up visits with the physician or audiologist are scheduled to monitor progress of the treatment.
